What We're Catching

Offshore Fishing

The waters off Louisiana’s gulf coast are loaded with prolific offshore fishing. From the famous Midnight Lump, to South Pass and the Western Delta Blocks, the path to unparalleled offshore fishing goes through Plaquemines Parish. Experience your dream of battling billfish and chasing yellowfin, right here at the gateway to the Gulf.

Whether you prefer fishing structure such as oil rigs and reefs or trolling and kiting for pelagic species on the open water, Plaquemines Parish offers the ultimate offshore fishing experience. A wide variety of species can be caught off our coast, ranging from tuna, wahoo, marlin, and swordfish, to amberjack, cobia, grouper, snapper, tarpon, and triple tail.

Inshore Fishing

Troll or drift through the marshes while casting to grass cover or oyster reefs and you’ll be amazed by the rod-bending action that awaits. These waters are absolutely teeming with redfish and speckled trout in all sizes, from trophy bulls to good-eating slots. Whether you want to fill a cooler or just want to experience the fight for which these beautiful gamefish are famous, there’s nowhere better to do it than Plaquemines Parish.

While targeting reds and trout, expect to encounter a large number of other species that make for great table fare, such as flounder, sheepshead, and black drum.

Freshwater Fishing

Even before the first man rigged together a fishing rod, the Mississippi River and its tributaries have been siphoning the best topsoil from the better part of the continent. For millions of years, these nutrients have flowed down the river and deposited into our wetlands, ultimately manifesting in some of the most rich and diverse habitats in the world. Many of these habitats are ripe with freshwater fishing opportunities.

Plaquemines Parish is littered with fresh water systems such as ponds, lakes, canals, and marsh. In virtually any of these waters, you can expect to catch a wide variety of freshwater species, including largemouth bass, sunfish, and catfish. Some species, such as the alligator gar, are known to reach sizes of epic proportions.
